Bamboo
Q: What are the benefits of bamboo over traditional hardwood flooring?
A: Bamboo makes a great flooring choice for so many reasons. Not only does its use make a limited impact ecologically, but it is also a practical and unique way to achieve a look unlike any other. Bamboo creates a floor that turns heads and begs the question: What is that flooring? It is beautiful. Its performance is unmatched and, when properly taken care of, it will last a lifetime.
Q: Where can bamboo flooring be installed?
A: Bamboo flooring is one of the only all-natural products that can be installed virtually anywhere in the house. It is extremely stable and able to withstand years of impact and use. If you are looking for solid flooring for your basement, choose bamboo because it can be installed directly over a concrete sub-floor that meets moisture requirements and will transform your drab basement into a cozy environment.
Q: How do I decide which type of bamboo flooring I should use for a project?
A: Choosing which type of bamboo flooring to use largely depends on the project. Of course, color and style are important factors to consider in deciding which floor is right for your home or project. Durability is also important. Traffic and wear patterns should also influence your choice. Some of our products are harder and might make a better choice for heavy traffic areas than others. Consult your Green Choice representative to help you make this decision.
StrandWoven Palm Wood
Q: Where does palm wood come from?
A: Our StrandWoven Palm Wood flooring is made from coconut palm trees grown on plantations in Indonesia.
Q: What makes palm wood “green”?
A: Coconut palm trees produce coconuts for a period of about 60-70 years. At that point they are removed to make room for a new tree. Normally the aged tree would have been burned, but instead we reclaim it to make a brand new flooring product.
StrandWoven Mulberry
Q: What is StrandWoven Mulberry flooring?
A: Our StrandWoven Mulberry flooring is made from reclaimed mulberry branches. Mulberry bushes are used by the millions to produce silk. After the silk worms have eaten all of the foliage from a mulberry bush, its branches are removed and stripped of their bark. They then go through refining processes and are compressed into a very hard composite floor that offers a rare and pleasing look.
Q: Where are mulberry bushes grown?
A: Mulberry bushes are primarily grown in China, Thailand, and India – countries that have large silk industries.
